"Hazrat Umar (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) was the second Caliph of Islam. He was born at Makkah Mukarramah into a noble tribe called the Quraish. He received the title of 'Faruq' after he embraced Islam. He was one of the very few persons in Makkah Mukarramah who could read and write. He was a tall, strong, and brave man, known as a skilled wrestler, horse-rider, and swordsman. Hazrat Umar (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) remained Caliph for ten and a half years. He conquered a vast empire and introduced a great system of administration. Hazrat Umar (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) gave great importance to justice. He would not spare anyone in judgement; high and low, rich and poor were equal before the law. Hazrat Umar (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) was kind to the poor and often spent sleepless nights roaming the streets in disguise to see the condition of his people."
